We thought it would be a good idea to round off last year with a little update on how things are getting on and what we have in store for 2016. In short though, I think I speak for all of us in saying that we’re very happy with how things are developing.
The back end of 2015 saw the launch of CoSCo. After repeatedly discussing it throughout ICLC-13, and certainly one too many glasses of wine, Gerrit and I thought it would be a good idea to try and keep the cognitive cohort at Northumbria in touch. Many different ideas and iterations were thought of before we finally settled on the form of a research group. From here we secured funding, the Psychology department and Graduate School of Northumbria being nice enough to decide we were a project worth investing in. CoSCo was then fortunate enough to have Dr Larry Taylor talk for our inaugural meeting on the subject of Emotion and the Body. I followed, discussing at the second meeting Verbs as Spatial Cues, and now we’re able to formally announce our third meeting on the 26th of this month.
Sondos Ibrahim will be presenting a talk on Mixed Metaphors in the Online Discourse of Chronic Pain Sufferers. To get the abstract for the event, check out our event page here. For automatic updates on this and future events, sign up to the mailing list here.
We hope to keep seeing you all at CoSCo. It has been a pleasure to launch something interesting, new and fresh in Newcastle, and great to forge a network of cognitive scientists. With us and the year just beginning, 2016 looks set to be an interesting one. Should you wish to get in touch, you can contact either myself (Ash[at]CoSCo.org.uk) or Gerrit Kotzur (Gerrit[at]CoSCo.org.uk), the co-organiser. Thank you for everything so far, we’ll see you soon.
After the successful inauguration of our research group in October (thanks to our speaker Larry Taylor & everyone who came along and joined some interesting discussions!), we’re getting ready for the follow up. Our own Ashley Chapman will deliver a paper called “Verbs as Spatial Cues” on Tuesday, 1st of December 2015 at 5 pm in room NB 149 (Northumberland Building, first floor). Please spread the word and come along.
For more information and abstracts, check out the event page here or email one of the organisers: Ash[at]CoSCo.org.uk or Gerrit[at]CoSCo.org.uk.
